Redemption in Indigo - Crocodile on the Sandbank

Redemption in Indigo

19. Redemption in Indigo [2010] by Karen Lord [Audible

I listened to this book via Audible. Audible, by the way, is the best thing since sliced bread, particularly the Audible app which runs on just about any device.

This is another book that reflects my studied choice this year to frequently read books not only by new-to-me authors, but by authors from different backgrounds from mine, writing in genres that I have not generally read.

Karen Lord was born in Barbados. She has won a number of awards, including for this book, which is based on a Senegalese folk tale.

While my review is brief, the book is rich and entertaining. Here is the review:
A fascinating folk tale retold even better. Interesting magical tidbits and strange people add to the fascinating story of Paama.  This is different from anything else I have read before. Enjoyable and occasionally puzzling.

I listened to this book on audible. The narrator was excellent.
A good narrator is priceless and this book had an excellent narrator. Most narrators are acceptable (there are some exceptions which I will note in my reviews). Some narrators are awesome, like this one... and like Lou Diamond Phillips.

If you like folk tales or magical stories, try this one!

Crocodile on the Sandbank

20. Crocodile on the Sandbank [1975] by Elizabeth Peters [Kindle

This was my first read of a book by Elizabeth Peters, which is odd, as this was published when I was ten years old. How did I miss out on her work?  This is the first of the Amelia Peabody mysteries, and is set in the middle 1880s.
Mystery, history, archeology, and a tiny bit of romance. What's not to love?  How did I never read one of these books until now? Seriously...  It was a fun and entertaining read and I look forward to more of this series.
Books Completed in 2015
I have read (or listened to) 51 books so far in 2015! Here is a list of completed books (most) with links to their info page on Goodreads and to the reviews I have written on Goodreads and Amazon (or Audible).  More links added as the reviews go live (some have been posted but are not yet live on Amazon or Audible).  I'm getting the blog up to date in the coming week or two with all the reviews and comments.
